Kitchen Island Makeover

There was nothing fancy about the back side of my kitchen island.  In fact, it was pretty "Blah."

After some textured bead-board wallpaper and some glossy black paint, I have this:

I picked up the beadboard wallpaper for only $20 at Amazon.com.  It's MUCH easier than trying to cut and fit real wood wainscoting panels!

Before & After one more time:

The whole project cost me around $25.00 for wallpaper and paint.  Not too bad for such a dramatic change!

  2. That's a fabulous transformation. We used the same wallpaper for our back splash and it looks terrific ... I highly recommend folks try it.

  4. That looks great! And now I'm kicking myself for not knowing there was such a thing as that wall paper after just doing the bathroom with the real deal....

  5. Love how it ties with with the rest of the kitchen/diningroom colors. A great $20 investment. Nicely done, Heather.

  8. Ok so I have been eagerly reading your kitchen redo w/ this wallpaper stuff and literally dreaming about doing it. However I have tile. Since you have used this wallpaper stuff do you think it would be acceptable to put over tile?

    1. Depending on how deep the grooves are between the tile, you may need to put some kind of filler over the grout so the outline of the tile doesn't show through. That said, the beadboard wallpaper I used was quite thick, so it may work right over the tile with no other prep. I suggest doing just one piece of wallpaper right over the tile and see how it dries. Cheers!

    2. you could even cut the wallpaper that looks like tin squares into squares and cover each individual tile. I am often broke and pride myself on decorating with little or no money. So Many POSSIBILITIES!!

  9. WOW! I didn't know you could get walpaper like that. I would have never known that was walpaper if you didn't say that.
