Baby's Crib Into King Size Headboard

We were so excited when I finally got pregnant that we went a little crazy on buying my son's nursery furniture.  Black furniture was all the rage and of course we justified the expense by saying that at least the crib could be converted to a toddler's bed.  Ha!

They grow up soooo fast!
Well, my son never got to use his crib as a toddler's bed because off we went to New Zealand while he was just newly two years old.  When we returned, we had a big boy who was ready for his full-size big boy's bed and a beautiful, expensive crib sitting in our storage unit.

It was probably a good thing that it was in pieces, because when I saw it all apart I got an idea.  "Hmmmm....wonder if I could use those pieces as a headboard for our King Size bed?"

We hadn't ever had a headboard for our bed, but the two end pieces of the crib would make a great His & Hers Headboard!

Simply placed behind our mattress, the crib pieces were a little low.  Solution:  Bricks.  I added a few bricks under the crib legs to lift the pieces up a bit higher.

What do you think?  If I didn't tell you, would you know our headboard was my son's crib?

  3. This is awesome! Not only do you have a very unique and gorgeous headboard or headboards but you have an really cool story behind it. Best of all though, they look amazing and you didnt have to "ruin" the pieces by screwing them into the wall or onto other longer boards to make it taller as most DIY headboards have you do. Jealous of your creativity! Keep it coming, we all love reading about it!

  4. That is a pretty sweet idea! Can one of the long sides of the crib be used as a headboard for a double bed now also?

  5. What a cool idea! I've been looking for a DIY headboard idea for the bed in our guest room and this would be so very cute. Plus, I saw an ad for a FREE vintage crib in our local newspaper last week. Maybe I'll check and see if it's still available! Thanks for the idea!
