Sugar Cube Ice Castle

About 6 years ago, I saw a picture of a beautiful Sugar Cube Castle in a magazine...can't remember where, but I think it was Martha Stewart Living.  Anyway, I was pregnant and in nesting mode, so I recreated Martha's beautiful castle and we enjoyed it for years since.

Then, we moved and there was a... mishap.

Yeah, it was actually a little worse than that.  But with destruction comes a new opportunity for creation!  So, here's what you need to build your own castle: Sugar cubes, an old piece of wood as a base and a glue gun with plenty of glue sticks.  Oh, and patience.

Unfortunately, I can't really give you too many tips on how to go about with the construction, except that you need a good and sturdy base (foundation) and then the sky's the limit.  I just tried to keep a general idea of what a castle looks like and went from there!

Before you get too impressed, there's plenty of mistakes!  But, with the use of some of that sparkly snow blanket material that I picked up at the Dollar Tree, I was able to hide those imperfections while making the castle look like it's floating in a cloud!

See?  No, you don't!
I tucked in some blue lights and added my Feather Tree (coming soon) and a pair of flocked ice skates to compliment it in front of the Amazing Mirror Transformation!

I think this is a great alternative to the traditional gingerbread house because it will last for years to come...just don't drop it!

I'll be keeping this display up for the remainder of the winter!  Now look how cheap it is to "fake" your own:

The Fake-It Yourself Breakdown:

DIY Sugar Cube Ice Castle:  7 Boxes of Sugar Cubes ($1.89/box), Lights ($3.00), Snow Cloth ($2.00), Wood & Glue on hand

Total Fake-It Cost:  $18.23
