Homespun Rags Lit Garland

Here's a super easy, super fast, last minute Christmas Craft using stuff I know you have lying around the house!

Fancy up your boring old Christmas Lights! Pull out your scrap fabric, put on your favorite Christmas movie and tie away!

I've seen these garlands in several Etsy shops and also on eBay. They average around $10- 20.00 for a 9 Foot string of lights.  Some, like this one from Amelia Crafters, are much more "raggy" than mine, but I have to admit that with all of the festivities going on around here that I got a little tired!

I think this might be a great idea for any season - just change the color scheme accordingly!

Because mine was a bit sparse to display on its own, I decided to wrap my garland around a large basket.

Something a little different, huh? I can now add a nice poinsettia or some greenery to make a lit floral display!

The Fake-It Yourself Breakdown:

DIY Rag Garland Lights:  Scrap Fabric $0, Extra 9 Foot String of Lights $0

Total Fake-It Cost:  Free!

Compare to Amelia Crafters 5 Foot Lit Rag Garland:  $11.00

Total Fake-It Savings:  $11.00+

  1. I absolutely love this idea. Later today, I will be going to the local Nursing Home with other memebers of my church to distribute gifts. I know it is too late to use the basket with lights idea this year but that is ok because I will now be on the prowl at yard sales this summer to get enough baskets to use this idea next Christmas. Using the basket with battery operated lights that can be bought at the dollar stores will be great instead of store bought bags. They will be able to use these long after Christmas to store their valuables. Thumbs up and Kuddo's.
