The Original Pancake House's Dutch Baby, Something Different For Breakfast

Years ago, my husband and I went out to breakfast at a local DC area favorite, The Original Pancake House.  I ordered their signature breakfast, The Dutch Baby, as seen here on their menu:

It's delicious!  It's like a Huge Popover Pancake with powered sugar.  Oh, yum!  So, I set out to make it myself and you can too!

Ingredients:
3 Eggs
3/4 Cup Milk
3/4 Cup Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Salt

1/4 Cup Butter (half a stick)

Confectioner's Sugar

First, preheat your oven at 450 degrees.  Put your half stick of butter in the middle of a glass pie dish and put it in the oven as it preheats (please ignore the mess of my oven!).  


Next, beat together the Eggs, Milk, Salt & Flour, leaving the batter lumpy - do not over-mix.  When the butter has melted in the oven, pour the batter into the pie plate and bake for about 15 minutes until the pancake is golden brown and puffed up.

Pretty cool, huh?  Now you can serve it up with some Confectioner's Sugar and a little squeeze of lemon if you like, but BE FAST, it deflates quickly!

    1. DUTCH BABIES ARE ALSO VERY GOOD WITH CINNAMON-SUGER APPLES- LIKE APPLE PIE FILLING. ADD FRESH WHIPPED CREAM ON TOP. THIS WAS A FAVORITE WITH MY B&B GUESTS

  6. It's Yorkshire Pudding! We traditionally serve this with roast beef and smothered with gravy, or bake it with sausages tucked inside (Toad-in-the-Hole).
