Nautical Centerpiece With "Faked" Glass Fishing Buoy

I am just loving all of the Beachy Decor out there in Blog-land right now and it's got me dreaming of all things Nautical for my home. One thing that caught my eye while Pinning away on Pinterest were these gorgeous 12 inch diameter Japanese Glass Buoys:

Pottery Barn used to sell them, but you can only find them on eBay now for $115.00 and up.  Ug!

Then, last weekend, I jumped out of the car to grab this off a yard sale table:

Only Three Dollars???  OK, well, it's not a real, spherical glass buoy...but it is definitely thick, sea-glass and...this is Fake-It Frugal!

With a little "net weaving" using some twine I had lying around, the Buoy was taking shape.

I had a seldom-used, large glass canister that I was hoping to plop this right into and create a beautiful cloche still-life...but...turns out the Buoy was a little too big for that.

So I pulled together my resources and came up with this Nautical Centerpiece instead!  Using raffia, I tied on clam shells to my tiered votive holders (I think I'll be using flame-less candles only in this display) and around the glass canister to unify the look.

Using some sea glass and shells from The Dollar Tree, I created a Sea Floor on the bottom of my canister.  Oh, and see those larger "shells" in the middle?

They're actually hand-painted fabric ornaments I picked up for $0.75 at another yard sale!  Cute, aren't they?

I also think this Centerpiece was a perfect addition to my Pottery Barn Inspired Place Mats!  It's so beachy that no one would know I'm a good 3 hours inland!
