Ever since I was a teenager, I've been taking an annual trip to
Cape May, NJ. The Victorian B&B's on the oceanfront are so incredibly beautiful that I instantly feel surrounded in homespun luxury. I love renting a beach cruiser bike and coasting up and down the shoreline, looking for dolphins and stopping for a snack at
Morrow's Nut House. The shops on
Washington Street Mall are filled with so many handmade goodies that always inspired me to go home and create, create, create!
Cape May's not just a summer destination. They've got super scary
Haunted House Tours at the Boo-Tique that will put a chill up your spine for Halloween, and a
Victorian Christmas that is not to be missed with lights galore, the glow of a fire & a sip of Hot Mulled Wine.
For several years, my husband and I stayed at
The Heather Inn. Well, it's no mystery how we came to pick that B&B, but amazingly, as soon as we walked into that Country Victorian Inn we felt as though we were home. We spent many summers there, always trying to stay in a different room so we could say we saw them all!
Sadly, The Heather Inn was sold, and the new owners decided to rent it out entirely on a weekly basis instead of keeping it as a B&B. We were heartbroken, but the memories we keep of our stays there grow fonder every year.
OK, OK...Enough daydreaming of vacations we can't currently afford!
Instead of dwelling on this "sacrifice," I have been thinking of ways to give my home the same
feeling of homespun luxury and inspiration that I used to get when I walked into The Heather Inn. That is something I can definitely do...on the cheap, too!
All of that said, I am going to start a Series called "My Heather Inn: The Ultimate Year-Round Fake-Cation." I'll be featuring Home Decor, Crafts, Food and even some Fake-Cation Beverages that are all inspired by Cape May and The Heather Inn.
I hope that you'll join me for a bit of "Fake-Cationing" in the coming weeks!

ReplyDeleteSounds like a great time!! I love B&B's... I did my boot camp in Cape May at the Coast Guard Station there back in '83... love the area and stayed an extra 3 days back in the day... I'm looking forward to your posts!
