Caramel Apple Cheesecake Dessert Dip

In my earlier post, I was saying that I went to a Birthday Party with the theme of "Heavy Appetizers."  Lord Have Mercy!  I brought along my Chesapeake Bay Seafood Dip, but I also wanted to make this incredible dessert that I had seen on The V Spot called "Apples Malloy, A Dessert That Will Turn You Into A Piggy."  Well...how could I pass up on making that???  (Plus, I knew I'd have to share it with a bunch of other people so I didn't sit at home and gobble up the entire thing myself!)

Pretty, Isn't It?
Ingredients:
1 Block Cream Cheese, room temperature
4 Tablespoons Confectioners Sugar
Caramel Sundae Sauce
Mini Chocolate Chips
Crushed Heath Bar
Granny Smith Apples, sliced & soaking in lemon juice/water until ready to serve

Beat the Cream Cheese and Confectioners Sugar until slightly fluffy.

Spread the Cream Cheese mixture onto a serving platter.

Top with Caramel Sauce, Mini Chocolate Chips & Crushed Heath Bar.

To serve, arrange the sliced Granny Smith Apples around the platter.

As you can see, the dip was already getting attacked before I could get my camera out to take a picture!

My mother and I were brainstorming about this recipe to see if we could turn it into something healthier as well...Why not substitute Non Fat Cream Cheese, Sugar Free Caramel Sauce, and some Toasted Almonds?  Then you can still be a "Piggy" around this dip, but not a "Guilty Piggy!"

If you make a similar version of this delicious dessert dip, drop me a note and let me know what you used!  Cheers!

  14. If you are making this ahead of time...how did you prevent the apples from turning brown and looking like they had been sitting there awhile??? Do you think that a light brushing with lemon juice will keep them looking "fresh" and not hurt the end taste???

    1. have a bowl of lemon juice and water and soak the apples in it for a bit before arranging on the plate

    2. I've also soaked mine in pineapple juice, which you will NOT taste. I've also heard that Sprite works the same!

  15. Hi Terri,

I cut up the apples in advance and kept them in a big zipper bag filled with water and just a little lemon juice. That kept them from going brown but preserved their flavor! Cheers!

  21. We make a jello dish for Thanksgiving every year that has the same kind of cream cheese "frosting" but we put roasted nuts on top. Replacing the chocolate chips and heath bars with roasted nuts would add a healthier edge (but of course keep the caramel!).

  22. My favorite dip is half marshmallow fluff, half cream cheese! Perfect for any dipping fruit. You can see the full recipe here: http://thefirstapartment.blogspot.com/2011/02/easy-entertaining-apple-dips.html

Can't wait to try yours now!

  23. My apple dip is usually fat free cream cheese layer, topped with layer fat free Carmel ( i like the one you buy in produce section), topped with granola. I've also added cinnamon & honey or replaced the Carmel with honey if I didn't have.

  24. Love your recipe! I will make the sugar free adjustments for the hubby. Gonna make this for Saturday game day!

  25. you can soak your apple slices in lemon/lime soda pop and prevent browning too

  26. This is a favourite treat around here, and I often make it to bring to parties. I use low fat, or fat free cream cheese (and I use the one in the tub rather than the brick, at room temp, for easier spreading) I do not add the sugar (and I have a huge sweet tooth. I just found you don't need it) I use caramel apple dip and packages Skor Bits which are basically the same as a crushed Heath bar, without the chocolate. Super Yummy.

  27. Maybe graham cracker topping?? I'm trying this for a school potluck tonight!

  28. i made this!! it was amazing!! THANK YOU! for this wonderful recipe!!

  29. I think you could up the nutritional content by using unflavored greek yogurt with a small amount of cream cheese to get the flavoring. Keep the candy/chips/caramel, but maybe add some sunflower seeds to the mix, raising the fiber/nut nutrients as well. You could make your own caramel from honey instead.

  30. I almost forgot, you can use unflavored gelatin to up the protein content of the dip as well, with little change in texture or flavor.

  31. I make a similar desert. Add brown sugar to cream cheese and whip. Not sure of the amount, I just eyeball it. Try 1/4 c. brown sugar and taste to see if sweetened enough. Mound the cream cheese/brown sugar mixture on a plate, place sliced apples around and top the with a drizzle of caramel syrup. Not sure if its as sweet as your receipe but definately less fattening. ;)

  32. I have made this also but I soaked my apples in pineapple juice in a zip lock bag over night. Gives them a great flavor.

  33. I soak in Sprite or 7Up and I used golden delisious apples and chopped pecans for the center sprinkles over the caramel sauce. By using the golden delisious it makes it look like a big Sunflower!

  34. I used to make this all of the time for parties I catered as well as for friends. Always a hit. We ran put of apples once and my friends husband said he could even dip paper in it!

  35. I wanna try this sooo badly! Without the heath bar...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm thinking maybe crushed graham crackers and pecans in place of the chocolate cups and Heath bar. That should say chocolate chips.

    ReplyDelete
  37. k I love the look of this, it sounds like it would be great. I read all the comments. 2 questions I have.. where can I find a healthier version. and what is a Heath bar?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you use an 8 oz "block" of cream cheese to the 4 TB of sugar?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Heath Bar is similar to Skor. Check the regular candy aisle of the grocer.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have a similar recipe but I use 8oz of cream cheese, mix with 1/2 cup-1 cup (depends how sweet you like it) of brown sugar. Spread on plate. Chop up Heath bar and sprinkle on top. Cut up the green granny smith apples and dig in! :) yum my FAVE!

  41. Was thinking of making this in a small jar and giving it to my sons teacher along with an apple. Just wondering how the cream cheese would be if she were unable to refrigerate it?

    ReplyDelete

    1. i dont recommend doing that - cream cheese should not sit out any longer than a few hours. How guilty would you feel if she ended up with food poisoning because she left it out all day

  42. We make this without the chocolate chips. And we put ours in the oven to let the caramel melt a little and then top with the Heath. So good.
