End of the Year Teacher Appreciation Gift: Crayon Art

My son’s Pre-School Teacher, Mrs. Edi,  is the MOST AWESOME TEACHER EVER!  I can’t say enough about what she’s done to help my son.  I feel so fortunate to have such a great & energetic person teaching my son the fundamentals of learning.

A few weeks ago, I came across this post  from Great Oak Circle for a “Broken Crayon Teacher Gift,” and I knew I had to make one for Mrs. Edi!

First, I took a piece of textured craft paper and cut it to fit in my computer printer.  Then, I opened MS Word and found some cool fonts to use to print out a large “E” and “Mrs. Edi” below.

Next, I cut the paper to fit inside the frame (Hint: Take the glass out of the frame and place it over your artwork, trace around the glass and cut.   That way you can be sure it’s the correct size.)

I put the craft paper into the frame first, then I replaced the glass BEHIND the craft paper.  This gives it a bit more stability.

Now the fun part!  I cut the tops off of some crayons using a steak knife – about 1/2 inch in length each.

I arranged them over top of my printed “E” until I was pleased with the spacing and color arrangement.  Using a hot glue gun, I attached each crayon top…and here’s the result:

It’s a small token of my appreciation for all of her hard work, but I hope that she’ll enjoy it in her classroom for years to come!

The Fake-It Yourself Breakdown:

Teacher Appreciation Art (Frame $3, Craft Paper $0.50, Crayons $0.64)

Fake-It Yourself Total: $4.14
