Fake Leather & Chrome Desk

My husband is lucky to be able to work from home one day a week.  Before we moved, he would set up shop at the dining room table.  Now that he's got his own Office, he needed a desk...so I decided to make one for him!

To make the desk, I used was a hollow-core door, some chrome shelves and leather-like contact paper!  We picked up the door from Home Depot, the shelves from Target and the Leather Contact Paper from Amazon!

The door makes for a sturdy, large desk, and for only $26.00 you just can't beat it!

The chrome wire shelves are great for storing books - I picked those up on sale for only $15 each!

It's Faux Leather Contact Paper that really pulls this project together.  It was very easy to stick it to the door.  I used a wallpaper squeegee to work out any little bubbles and then just folded the edges like a present.  Plus, I only needed one roll to do the entire door!

I simply laid the table on top of the shelves.  It's not attached in any way, making it easy to slide a bit to put computer cords behind.

I surprised mu husband with this spiffy new desk when he returned from a business trip and he was thrilled!

The Fake-It Yourself Breakdown:

  2. Wow, that is a great project. I will definitely do this so we can have more desk space. I might use file cabinets underneath. Not sure if they'll be tall enough though.

    Thank you for this project!
