Organized Craft Room

This week,  I took it upon myself to organize my Craft Supplies.  I decided to move them from a closet in the basement up to a seldom-used area in my guest room.  It forced me to sort and organize everything downstairs first before having to haul it up two flights of stairs.  Plus, who wants to try to be creative in a dark basement?  Isn’t this a better setting?

We’re lucky to have guests 4 times a year, so this space is really a waste unless I can find a way to maximize it’s potential…so here’s what I did:

First, I put two cheap folding tables in an “L” shape and added a chair I found at a flea market for $5.  Voila!  It’s an Instant Workspace that I can use for crafting and that my husband can use to set up his laptop when working from home!

Next, I attacked the unused closet and added my newly sorted and organized crafts, leaving a bit of space for my guests’ hanging clothing.

I made sure that everything was sorted and well labeled so that when I get the urge to create, I know exactly what materials I have to work with (and I don’t run out to the craft store to buy more).  It’s really the same strategy that I use with my pantry – I try to work with what I already have.

I happened to have these organizing boxes on hand, but if you’re looking for a low-cost solution, check out The Dollar Tree for their small plastic shoe boxes.  They’re perfect for organizing small bits and pieces.

Here’s the best part…when guests do arrive to stay a while, I can close the closet doors and hide away my organized clutter!

Now….what to do with that empty closet in the basement…hmmm.  :)

  1. That looks great and not too expensive. I love the $1 tree containers. I buy the sink tubs for washing feet and another for floors etc. I was surprised that your guest room's closet was empty. Thanks for sharing.
