Homespun Fun Floor Lamp

When we moved into our rental home, I realized there were no light fixtures in any of the rooms - just the outlets attached to light switches for floor lamps.  Looking for a quick (and cheap) solution to light my rooms, I ended up with these basic Torchiere Floor Lamps from Walmart.  I picked up Four of them at the time while they were on sale for $10 each.

They did the trick, and in some of my rooms their unassuming silhouette is fine.  BUT...in my Guest Room/Craft Room, I wanted something a little more "country comfy."  Especially next to my newly refurbished, adorable Quilt Rack.

Here's what I came up with:

It was pretty easy to do.  I simply ripped a whole lot of strips of scrap fabric and began tying them onto the pole.  One.  By.  One.  (Actually, it didn't take that long - maybe an hour to do the entire project!)

I also painted the top and bottom of the lamp in a coordinating Linen color using craft paint.

Finally, I attached a final large ripped strip of fabric to the top of the lampshade to tie the whole look together.

Isn't it fun (and frugal) to look around at what you've already got and see how you can make it better?
