The Mermaid's Lantern

This home decor idea is inspired by My Heather Inn.  If you haven't read about my plan for the "Ultimate Fake-Cation,"  please check it out!

Years ago, I picked up this Primitive Lantern from Cape May Wicker in Cape May, NJ.  I loved it at the time and it always had a prominent spot in my home.

For My Heather Inn, however, I'd really like it have more of a whimsical, seaside flair, so I gave it a Mermaid Makeover!

For this re-do, I first painted the wood a Seafoam Green.  Then, on the Mason Jar, I used Transparent Aqua Glass Paint.  I draped a piece of Fish Netting I picked up at The Dollar Tree over the top of the Jar and finished the whole thing off with some Dollar Tree Shells mixed with some Shells my husband picked up from his world travels.

I hope this Mermaid Lantern is a welcoming light for us as we return home each day!

  4. Great job bringing new life to a favorite thing.

I'm going to look for transparent aqua glass paint. I need some of that! Did you buy it at a craft store?

I found you at Handy Man Crafty Woman. Thanks for sharing your project.

  5. Hi Pink,

I picked up the Aqua Paint at Michael's - far in the back corner where they sell glass paint - this one's called "Vitrea 160" made by Pebeo. Oh, and make sure you get the one that says "transparent" because I almost walked out of there with an opaque one!

    Cheers!
