Kitchen Cabinet Menu Board

When we were selecting our kitchen cabinets for our new home, we had a choice to add some extra faux door paneling to the sides of the cabinets that would be exposed.  Of course, there was no way I was going to spend an extra $300 for a useless panel, so here are what my cabinets looked like when we moved in:

Nothing wrong with it - it's just a plain side of a cabinet, but when I saw it I knew just how to make it functional and beautiful!

Remember that chalkboard wall I did in my son's room?  Well, I had about a half of a can of chalkboard paint leftover and decided to paint the cabinet.  Because I didn't prime it first (lazy), it took about 4 coats to really make a good adhesion to the shiny, finished cabinet.

Here's how it came out:

I just LOVE it!  It helps me plan out our meals for the week and it keeps my family informed of the plan.  I can also envision using as a Entertainment Menu for parties!

Do you have a little blank space in your kitchen that could use a Menu Board?

PS - Here are the Bigos (link) and Clam Sauce Recipes we had this week!

  1. I love that. Such a good idea. I'm not a huge fan of chalkboard but that would also be a good place for a corkboard and whiteboard. Now I'm wishing I had a blank space like that in my tiny kitchen. :)
