31 Days Of Nothing - Take 2

Hello Frugal Friends & Happy New Year 2013!

Credit
You may recall that last year I accepted the "31 Days of Nothing" Challenge with Learning the Frugal Life.  That is so say, 31 days of not spending any extra money.  None.  No thrift stores.  No Chinese takeout.  Only eating out of the pantry.  Minimizing electricity and gas usage.

Here are The Rules.

I won't kid you, last time around was tough, but I was amazed that my family was able to save $1000.00 by cutting out the consumerism and doing a little more DIY.  This time around I feel much more prepared because my pantry is fully stocked, my meals have already been planned out for the entire month of January, and my activities have been planned as well.

Read about last year's challenge & lessons learned.

Please, join me on this month's 31 Days of Nothing Challenge.  If you don't feel like you can do a whole month, then consider trying just one week.  You will be amazed at how ingenuitive you can be when faced with the prospect of not spending a single penny!   You'll also be rewarded with some major savings by the time it's done (and after Christmas, couldn't we all use a month off from spending?).

Look for my weekly updates and meal plans all month long!

  3. This is very interesting, but isn't cheating a little to stock your freezer and pantry ahead of time? lol!

    1. Not at all. My pantry is ALWAYS stocked. I use this challenge as a opportunity to use up some of the stuff that's getting old. Better to use it up than throw it away!

  4. I think we could do this. We had already committed to no eating out the month of Jan. But how do you go a month without buying milk. I think I could almost do everything else but the milk has me stumped...we usually go through several gallons a week.

    1. Hi Michelle, Please read The Rules link (http://fakeitfrugal.blogspot.com/2011/12/31-days-of-nothing-challenge.html). You can still buy milk and eggs, etc - Just the necessities!

  5. I had decided to do this with the fiscal cliff looming (I lost my job last year) and with that amount of money out of our budget its nice to have enough to do so, I will of course have to buy milk 6 people in the house do go thru a lot. Great that others have the same idea.

  6. I'm joining you in this challenge. I had already decided to do this for January. I like the idea that I'm not alone in this. When I told my 16 yo that we were going to have a no send month, she called it a money diet. That cracked me up. Wishing everyone success! :)

  7. In all honesty, I do this almost every month. Not out of necessity, necessarily, but out of self-preservation. I HATE HATE HATE going to the grocery store so I will put it off for as long as humanly possible until we are scraping the dust off the pantry shelves. We eat out maybe 3 or 4 times a year and we don't go to movies or any other entertainment venues. My husband doesn't like it much but it's what we have to do to make ends meet. It becomes second nature after a while and your pocketbook will really show it.
