Remember Reagan, our Scottie?
This is a peanut butter dog! He loves any treat made from peanut butter (OK, he likes any kind of treat) and we love to give him treats, so we have a good arrangement going!
Oh, how we used to spend hundreds of dollars spoiling him with name brand treats! But now, even Reagan has gone frugal!
Here's the latest batch of Peanut Butter Supa Treats (aka Fake Kong Stuff'N Mini Dog Treats) that I make for pennies! Here's how:
Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Water
3 Cups Flour
Mix all ingredients together to form a dough.
Roll out the dough and cut into long strips, then into the size of Supa Treat you want.
Place the treats close to each other on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
Separate a week's worth of Supa Treats into freezer bags and label. Supa Treats will keep in the freezer for 6 months or in your Treat Jar for 1 week. Put one Supa Treat at a time in your Kong Rubber Dog Toy and let'em have at it!
The Fake-It Yourself Breakdown:
Peanut Butter Supa Treats (Pantry Items $0.40) Yields 4 Bags of Approx. 24 Treats (only 10 cents a bag!)
Total Fake-It Cost: $0.40
Kong Stuff'N Dog Treats ($6.99 box)
Total Fake-It Yourself Savings: $27.92*
*Extend that savings out over the course of a year, and it comes to $358.38!
WoW! Definitely be making these for my Rowdy dog and grandpup Bentley!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Love the idea that it's sooo much cheaper + looks like a super tasty treat!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recipe. I've been looking for an easy treat for our dog that doesn't have a ton of ingredients. I'll be trying these soon!
ReplyDeleteMy greyhound loves peanut butter...and she loves treats, too. Your recipe looks tasty. I also use the recipes from http://www.dogtreatkitchen.com/.

ReplyDeleteI made this for my two dogs the other day and they love them! We don't have a lot of freezer space to spare, so I halved the recipe. Worked great for us. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeletejust made these, Yukon loved them, thanks!!
ReplyDeletei made them for my dogs they love them.. is there any other flavor that you know of?
ReplyDeleteDo these come out hard or mushy (ie my dog can't figure out the Kong thing, so could I feed it to her on the floor and it not get stuck to the carpet?
ReplyDeleteThey come out hard(ish). The won't leave a mushy mess on your floor like Kong Squirt Stuffing will. :)
DeleteOMG just made them! No more store bought dogs treats for my doggies...p.s. my kiddos at them too LOL
ReplyDeleteAwesome look easy to make and thanks for sharing. Your fur baby is soo cute. new follower.
ReplyDeleteJust made these. The dogs love them and they are so easy to make. I used coconut oil instead of vegetable oil and it worked fine. Thank you
ReplyDeleteMy lhasa apso loved these!! Couldn't wait to eat more. My german shepherd was a little timid but she ended up enjoying them.
ReplyDeleteWe just got a new puppy, and with my sister and her new pups visiting my house there were plenty of bellies to treat! We made these and they all went crazy for them... I'm glad this recipe made a lot! Thanks so much for posting!
ReplyDeleteWe have two dogs and a bunny, all three run to the gate at the kitchen doorway when they hear "thier" cupboard open. They all love these... my neice too, she thought they were peanut butter cookies. I make mine round but same thickness, just so they don't fall through the floor in the bunny's cage. If you cook them 20 min then turn off oven but leave in over night, they come out crispier and will last longer.
ReplyDeleteI just made these and our dogs loved them!! Thank you so much for this recipe

ReplyDeleteThank you for the recipe! My dog loved them. In fact he was sitting by the oven when I made the 2nd batch as looked at me as if saying "more please!" I added cheese and bacon bits to the recipe. Maybe next time I'll add parsley to freshen his breath! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteDo you think I could replace the oil with coconut oil? Add in some pumpkin?
ReplyDeleteI use olive oil instead of the vegetable oil and whole wheat flour. My dogs love them!!! Thanks for the recipe!
