Stuffed Cabbage Casserole For Less Than $1/Person

Stuffed Cabbage is a really inexpensive and yummy family meal to make, but it’s so time consuming!  Not to worry!  I’ve got a solution that is both budget and time friendly!

Stuffed Cabbage Casserole

Ingredients:
1 1lb Package of Ground Turkey or Ground Beef
4 Cups of Cooked Rice – can be leftover Chinese Food Rice
1 Green Cabbage, Shredded
1 Package Meatloaf Seasoning
1 Tablespoon Minced Garlic
1 Can Tomato Soup
1 Large Can Crushed Tomatoes
Italian Breadcrumbs and/or Parmesan Cheese

In a large frying pan, brown the meat with the minced garlic.  Drain excess grease & turn off heat.  To the pan, add the Tomato Soup, Crushed Tomatoes & the Meatloaf Mix.  Mix it well and let it cool a bit.

Meanwhile, shred the Cabbage into 1/2 inch thick shreds.

Next, put the Meat Mixture into a large bowl and add the Rice and mix well.

Now we’re ready to assemble, just like making a lasagne.  Layer Meat Mixture, then Cabbage, then Meat, then Cabbage, and finally Meat.

Top with Breadcrumbs and/or Parmesan Cheese.

Cover with Aluminum Foil and Bake at 350 Degrees for 45 minutes.  Then, remove the foil and continue to bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.

This casserole will serve 8 people as a hearty meal or up to 16 as part of a Pot Luck Buffet!

The Fake-It Yourself Breakdown:

Stuffed Cabbage Casserole (Ground Turkey $1.50, Tomato Soup $0.50, Crushed Tomatoes $1.75, Meatloaf Mix $1.00, Cabbage $1.00, Rice $0.50)

Total Fake-It Cost: $6.25 or $0.78 Per Person for Dinner

  1. This recipe also works great in the crockpot. Cook on low for about 6-8 hours the flavors mingle and flavors are great

  4. I just want to tell you that I just finished eating this for dinner and I loved it. I will definitely make this again. My hubby also loved it. Thanks for the great recipe and tips. Oh and I also have your meatballs in the oven right now. Can't wait to get those frozen for future meals. I used a mixture of ground deer and beef.
