Follow-Up to LL Bean Monogrammed Tote Bags

For those of you who loved the Monogrammed Canvas Totes Projectbut who are not interested in going through the trouble of hand-painting monograms, here’s a solution that is even better:

Using an Iron-on Transfer Sheets for computer printers, I printed out a bunch of monograms using some fun fonts.

It’s super easy and FAST.  Just print, cut, and iron for 20 seconds.  Wait 1 minute for it to cool, then peel off the backing.

It only took me 30 minutes to make up 30 bags!  Plus, now you can make anyone’s monogram as traditional or as fancy as you wish!

I use these bags for the grocery store, flea market, carting around my son’s stuff…just about everything!

For the Fake-It Yourself Breakdown on the original project, click here.  Adding in the cost of the iron-on transfer adds approximately $0.07 to each bag for a total of $1.07 each.

  1. Where can I find the iron on transfer sheets?

  2. You can pick those up in a pack of 10 at Walmart, Michaels or any craft store. Walmart is the cheapest price (same quality) that I've seen.

  3. This is what I was thinking of, instead of painting by hand. They look great!

Question? sometimes, the quality at the dollar tree can be shady. Do you like these canvas totes!? I want to do this for Christmas, too!

  4. Hi Beth!

The quality is actually pretty awesome! I've been using them as grocery bags since April and they are still in perfect condition. Thanks for the question! Cheers!

  5. Another thought is the L.L. Bean outlet in Freeport, Maine. They have a lot of these bags, that are only slightly off. Some of them are fine and just returned. For people living in the area, it's worth checking out. We have the biggest style of the bag in my house, and it's so durable we use it to bring firewood up from the cellar.
