Comparing this new home with similar (though not brand new) homes in our current area, we will be saving nearly $300,000 (!) by moving to a county that is "further out" from where we currently live. I say "further out" because the actual mileage is the same distance, but it is two counties removed from Washington DC instead of a county that is adjoining the city. The commute for my husband will be about the same (possibly less) and there is still public transit should he wish to use it!

That's fine for us, but what does this mean for you?
Well, for one thing, I now have given myself permission to go crazy with Frugal Home Decor! We have been renters for nearly 4 years now and I am about to burst with fabulous (and cheap) decorating ideas!!! Oh, and just because we don't move for a few more months, doesn't mean that I can't get started right away!
I make this pledge to you all right now: I will not purchase a single "new" thing for my new home - it will all be homemade, remade, re-purposed, recycled, or invented. Let the fun begin!
Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy for you! And I can't wait to see what creative decorations you come up with!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! Very excited four you!!

ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you! We too plan on building. And, I absolutely love your idea to decorate homemade, remade, re-purposed, recycled, or invented!!! I plan to do the same! It is so cool to fill your home with items and decor that have a story or a history. Have fun!

ReplyDeleteWow! How exciting =) I am from Alexandria, VA and know how expensive it is to live there! My hubby is from Stafford which is much much cheaper! However we ended up moving to a home in Missouri paying cash for our first home =) I just found your blog and hope to learn lots of things from you!
ReplyDeleteblessings,
